2.0 REMOVING THE BEARING CARTRIDGE AND GREASING

The bearing cartridge can be easily removed from the housing tube for routine maintenance (e.g. cleaning and greasing the bearings) and extraordinary maintenance (e.g. replacing worn bearings).

To prevent oxidation of the parts and to facilitate the extraction and insertion of the cartridge over time, it is recommended to lubricate with some SILICONE GREASE both the outer side of the cartridge and the inner side of the housing tube.
NOT grease the outside of the housing tube and the upper faces.
This step is mandatory.

2.1 REMOVE THE CARTRIDGE FROM THE HOUSING TUBE
1st Using the 5mm Allen key provided, unscrew and remove the four cartridge retaining screws.

Take the two M5 screws supplied and screw them halfway into the corresponding threaded holes on the top of the cartridge.

3. Grasp the two M5 screws and, while pulling upward, rotate the cartridge alternately clockwise and counterclockwise until it comes out of the housing tube. It's okay if it offers a slight resistance for a short distance.

2.2 GREASE THE OUTSIDE OF THE CARTRIDGE AND THE INNER PART OF THE CARTRIDGE HOUSING TUBE.

1st Take the silicone grease, grease the internal surface of the housing tube with your fingers, taking care to grease especially the bottom and the joining sides of the housing tube.
This operation is very important to prevent the water contained in the cement from entering the cartridge and will also facilitate the extraction of the bearing cartridge for maintenance operations.
CAUTION: DO NOT GREASE THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF THE HOUSING TUBE.

2nd Always using silicone grease, grease the external surface of the cartridge as well.

3.0 INSTALLING THE CARTRIDGE IN THE FLOOR

Installation must be carried out by expert and qualified personnel.
Read and follow the instructions carefully in all steps.
Before installation, make sure that the characteristics of the floor/slab are consistent with the installation methods.
Before installation, make sure that there are no plumbing, heating or electrical lines under the installation point.
Carry out the work with care, using quality materials and equipment.
In any case, refer to the technical specifications of the product used for fixing (resin or other).

For installations on stages, in iron structures or in the garden, contact the technical office support@thepole.it

3.1 DRILLING THE FLOOR

The depth of the hole depends on how you want the final effect of the installation.

IMPORTANT! If the thickness of the pavement casting is less than the depth of the hole, it will be ESSENTIAL to stabilize the underlying gravel layer by pouring epoxy resin or cement, in order to obtain a SOLID support BASE and a ROBUST and consistent PERIMETER for the entire depth.

Follow the point 3.1.1 for installing the cartridge flush with the floor.
Follow the point 3.1.2 for installing the cartridge with the construction of a cap.

Image
3.1.1 INSTALLING THE CARTRIDGE FLUSH WITH THE FLOOR:

Drill the hole at the chosen point using a diamond cup cutter, or core drill, with a diameter of 100mm (4inch = 101mm).
The hole should be 125-130mm deep
It is assumed that the floor is perfectly level and that the finished hole is orthogonal to it.
The overall height of the assembled tube is 121mm.

REMEMBER:
Loose and uneven gravel bottom: DO NOT PROCEED without stabilizing!
Bottom well stabilized with resin or cement: PROCEED with the next steps.

3.1.2 INSTALLING THE CARTRIDGE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CAP

Drill the hole at the chosen point using a diamond cup cutter, or core drill, with a diameter of 100mm (4inch = 10mm).
The overall height of the assembled tube is 121 mm.
The hole must be 125-130 mm deep + the thickness of the cap (do the calculations carefully).
The cap must be the same diameter as the hole and will hide the cartridge from view and tripping when the equipment is not in use.
It is assumed that the floor is perfectly level and that the finished hole is orthogonal to it.

REMEMBER:
Loose and uneven gravel bottom: DO NOT PROCEED without stabilizing!
Bottom well stabilized with resin or cement: PROCEED with the next steps.

4.0 CARTRIDGE INSTALLATION

To fix the cartridge inside the hole, it is recommended to use Two-component fluid epoxy resin for casting joints

It is recommended to ensure, before laying, that the contents of the cartridge/bottle/bag are sufficient to complete the job.
If the previous steps have been performed correctly, the volume to be filled is approximately 400 ml.

ALSO EVALUATE THE HARDENING TIMES OF THE CHOSEN PRODUCT and the maximum casting thicknesses recommended by the manufacturer, and possibly modulate the management of the subsequent phases accordingly.

AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION:
The hole in the floor must be clean and free of dust to maximize the adhesion of the resin.

To prevent accidental resin infiltration into the system and irreversibly damage it, completely cover the top side of the tube and cartridge with paper tape, making sure beforehand that there are no traces of grease or dirt that could limit or render the tape ineffective.

4.1 CAREFULLY SEAL THE TOP END OF THE HOUSING TUBE
It's essential Ensure that the product used to fill the hole does not penetrate the cartridge or tube in any way. To prevent this from happening, resulting in damage to the product, it is necessary seal carefully the top end of the tube with masking tape first to pour the product into the hole.
The lower end of the tube is already sealed and does not require any intervention.

4.2 INSERT THE HOUSING TUBE INTO THE HOLE

This operation is very important, if the cartridge is cemented crooked it will no longer be possible to extract it and put it straight again.
The housing tube must be installed perfectly straight, otherwise the pole will not rotate properly and installation will be problematic. Make sure it is straight in all directions.

Level the bottom of the hole with a small amount of product (4-9mm) and insert the cartridge into the hole: this step is IMPORTANT To ensure a solid and uniform support for the cartridge, the layer thickness must be calibrated so that the top of the cartridge is in the desired position. It may be useful to place some small rigid shims under the base to prevent it from sinking and keep the cartridge at the desired level.

Image

4.3 FILL THE LOWER HALF OF THE HOLE WITH ANCHOR

Fill the lower half of the hole with resin.
Place the supplied square tube on the top side of the cartridge and use it as a support for the spirit level.
Check the perfect horizontality of the system in several positions, stabilizing or correcting the position with the four plastic wedges supplied.

If possible, it is recommended to wait for the product to harden.

Image

4.4 REMOVE THE WEDGES AND FILL THE REMAINING VOLUME

Remove the wedges and fill the remaining volume with product, reaching the desired height.
Level and refine the casting if necessary.

Wait for the resin to COMPLETELY cure before removing the tape and using the equipment.

Image

5.0 INSERTING THE BEARING CARTRIDGE INTO THE HOUSING TUBE

Proceed only after checking that the cement has hardened completely.
1st Remove the tape from the top of the housing tube.
2nd
Grasp the bearing cartridge by the M5 screws and insert it into the housing tube, positioning it correctly by matching the holes.
When the holes match, unscrew the M5 screws and remove them completely.
